Plug Valves

A plug valve is a quarter turn rotary motion valve used to stop/start flow in a pipeline. This valve type uses a tapered or cylindrical plug to stop flow. There are two types of plug valves commonly used, lubricated and non-lubricated.

Lubricated plug valves rely on sealant to lubricate the rotation of the disc whilst also assisting in the sealing of the seat. Non-Lubricated plug valves have a seat is lined with a non-metallic elastomer which reduces friction between the plug and seat. This type of plug requires less maintenance but is restricted more tightly by temperature.

There are three porting types available for plug valves. Rectangular, Diamond and Round porting are available for various applications. The rectangular port is the most commonly utilised and provides at least 70% of the corresponding pipelines cross-sectional area. Diamond porting is generally utilised for throttling activities as these types are venturi restricted flow types.

Plug valves offer an effective solution for isolation valving across a variety of applications. They have a relatively simplistic design with few components. They also offer some advantages when in service, including; minimal flow resistance, inline maintenance is possible and they are quick to

PAC understands the requirements for quality valving which provides effective sealing whilst minimizing the loses within the pipeline. We are able to offer you the best valving solutions to ensure that your pipeline operates efficiently. Plug valves allow for isolation points within pipelines whilst minimizing any pressure losses which may be associated with other valve types.

PAC has extensive experience providing plug valves for various applications, however two of the more common applications PAC encounter are transmission pipline isolation and pigging line valves. In both instances valve quality is essential to ensure the integrity of the pipeline and associated components, PAC works closely with European and Mexican suppliers to ensure that the products of the highest quality are supplied to the industry.
